On June 4th Mrs. Ackroyd's kindergarteners' super reader powers were on full display. Several guests visited Mrs. Ackroyd's class. Some of the guests were School Committee member John Roux, Superintendent Matt Nelson, and Assistant Superintendent Steve Bussiere. The kindergarteners had the opportunity to read to each guest, and their super reader powers were successfully being used. Through the Lucy Calkins reading program all of Sanford's kindergarteners have learned to point to each word; use the picture as a clue for meaning; recognize high frequency or snap words; reread a section of the story and more. Our students are becoming super readers.
