A message from the Civil Rights Team:
February is Black History Month, and this year’s theme is A Century of Black History Commemorations, in remembrance of the first nationally held black history month in 1926. Black History Month was created by Carter G. Woodson, a historian and scholar who was born to formerly enslaved parents. He sought to highlight the achievements of African Americans, achievements that had been largely overlooked throughout history. This month especially, we recognize and honor the enduring legacy, struggles, and accomplishments of Black people in America.
Note from the Nurse's Office:
Next Friday is National Wear Red Day. (Friday, February 6th) This is a nationally recognized day by the American Heart Association and Go Red Foundation to bring awareness to cardiovascular disease.
February is also American Heart Month.
Cardiovascular disease is a group of diseases affecting your heart and blood vessels. It is the leading cause of death in the US and worldwide. Almost half of adults in the US have some form of cardiovascular disease. 1 in 3 women dies from cardiovascular disease. But wait!! Cardiovascular disease can be prevented! We would like to spread awareness on Wear Red Day in hopes of promoting heart-healthier students and staff!
Next Friday we encourage everyone to wear red and do one heart-healthy activity! Some perfect activities include-
