RED Day

 

 

If any student is looking for dress clothes for Prom, please see Mrs. Williams in A241 before the 7:50 bell or during block 3 on Fridays.  We have a large assortment of dresses/slacks/shirts and shoes to choose from. 

 

Anyone interested in running for student council or class office needs to see Mr. Smith in Room e150 to pick up a contract and petition. These will need to be returned to Mr. Smith by Friday May 2nd in order to be placed on the ballot.

WANTED: News Anchor for The Spartan Times!  SHS's high school newspaper is searching for a weekly news anchor for their social media channels for the 2025-26 school year (currently known as "News With Nat"). If you're interested in getting us #InTheKnow on news, sports, arts & entertainment and/or more, let us know! This can be for community service hours or through an independent study. Email spartan-times@sanford.org!

April is National Poetry Month! Check out the display of fantastic poetry books in the library windows, including novels in verse. Also, come in and create your own poems at the poetry station set up all month. Then join us on Thursday, May 1st and Friday, May 2nd for a poetry slam/open mic reading during ST.  

April is also Arab American heritage month.  Check out the great books written by Arab-American authors in the library windows, including two of my favorites: All my Rage, by Sabaa Tahir, and A Very Large Expanse of Sea, by Tahereh Mafi.

We are excited to announce a fun opportunity for our Spartan Students. Want to win prizes? If you have Spartan gear, wear it each Friday and check in at the tables during lunch for a chance to win some prizes. Prizes will be drawn monthly, and the more Fridays you wear your gear, the more chances you’ll have to win!  Go Spartans! 

 

NHS is offering FREE tutoring sessions every Thursday from 2:30 - 3:30pm in B-143B. Stop by for a little extra help in a subject area of your choice.  The late bus is available on this day.  

 

The Late Bus will pick students up on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays @ 4:00PM at the flagpole out front.

Spartan Café is back open! Tuesdays and Thursdays during block 4 (for students) 3&4 (for staff) in the life skills suite in the red wing at the top of the agora. The upcoming menu is:

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

SHS Cadet Program: If you are interesting in being part of the Cadet program please stop by Officer Gosling’s office, E102 for further information. 

Anime club now meets every Thursday right after school until 3:30 in Ms. Silva’s room B212.

Nature Journal Club – Thursdays in Ms. Strout's room B249 (top red) 

The Health and Wellness Club in the gym is now open every day after school except Wednesdays.  All are welcome!

GSTA will be meeting Thursday mornings before school as well as Thursday after school.  Please see Mrs. Stanhope in B237 if interested.

Peer Helpers will meet on Fridays from 7:30-7:45 AM in the small café

Civil Rights Team will meet on Mondays @ 2:25pm in the library.  Please join us to help make the school a place where everyone feels safe, welcome, and respected for who they are!

D&D Club meets on Tuesdays from 2:30-3:30 in E121 (Dr. K’s room) Come join!

SHS Book Club:  Meets every Thursday during Spartan Time.  New members are welcome when we start a new book.

Art Club: Do you need a space to be creative? Look no further than joining Art Club! Can't commit to a weekly club? No worries! Drop ins always welcome! See Ms. Simoneau, B127 Tuesdays from 2:30-3:30.

Environmental Club now meets on Monday’s @ 2:30 in Mr. Jeney’s room, E256 at the end of the hall, 2nd floor Blue wing.

The ASL Club runs every Tuesday from 2:30-3:30 pm after school in room E123A. We hope to see you there!

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

 

Do you want to be a hero while earning your community service hours?

If you like the outdoors and being on the water, we have a great opportunity for you.  Loon Pond Betterment Association is looking for volunteers to help eradicate Chinese Mystery Snails from Loon Pond. We have a variety of positions available and will be conducting this project June through September. Dates and times will vary, and we are very flexible. MCS would like 5-6 volunteers for May 8th from 3-5 pm for our Girls on the Run. We are looking for volunteers to help hand out snacks/water and cheer on students as they run in the 5K at our school. If you are interested please reach out to thallissey@sanford.org

 

Carl J Lamb Elementary School is in need of volunteers to sell carnations, guide students, and pass our programs, for their spring Arts Nights (concerts and art shows).

Attention Students! Looking for an opportunity to earn community service hours while helping your local newspaper? The Sanford Springvale News is looking for student volunteers with a vehicle and a driver’s license to serve as substitute newspaper delivery drivers.

This role involves delivering newspapers on a specific route on Fridays in the late morning or early afternoon, as needed. It’s a simple 1 to 2-hour commitment on weeks you’re available.
