It’s the last day of Red Ribbon Week and we want to thank you for your participation in supporting healthy, drug free lifestyles. We hope you’ve really thought about the meaning of this year’s theme: BE KIND TO YOUR MIND LIVE DRUG FREE – and how making healthy choices will help you achieve your goals in life.
Good morning! Bonjour! Happy DAY OF WELCOME!!!! Today we wear our school colors, red and white, to welcome everyone. The last identity is National Origin and Ancestry, which refer to where in the world someone and their ancestors are from. (Ancestors are someone’s birth parents, and their birth parents, and their birth parents, and so on.) National origin is about the country someone is born in or lives in, but ancestry goes further back in time. Someone might be born in America, but maybe their birth parents (or grandparents, or great-grandparents) are from China. This would make them American, but also Chinese. They might call themselves Chinese American, or American Born Chinese. A person’s national origin and ancestry can include many people and places, especially if they have both adopted and birth parents, or they are part of a blended family. Examples of national origin and ancestry include: Franco-American and French, Hispanic/ Latinx, Middle Eastern, Penobscot, Puerto Rican, Somali, and Vietnamese. There are many, many more. Remember: All national origins and ancestries are welcome in our school. Our schools are for everyone! Please make an effort today to reach out to others to make them feel safe, welcome, respected, and celebrated for who they are!
