It is RED RIBBON week… The theme is BE KIND TO YOUR MIND LIVE DRUG FREE: The theme is a call to action to speak out in support of healthy choices. Good Morning! Bom Dia! To get ready for the Civil Rights Team Day of Welcome on Friday, November 8, we would like to share with you a couple of the many identities the Civil Rights Team covers: Race and Skin color and religion. Race is very hard to define, but it’s a way to group people who originally come from different parts of the world and are thought to have similar physical traits, including skin color. Some examples of race and skin color include: Asian, Black or African American, Native American, Pacific Islander, white, or any combination of these (known as biracial or multiracial). There may also be more.
Religion is a set of beliefs about people and the world, how they came into being, and what their purpose is. These beliefs are usually connected with higher powers (like a god, gods, or spirits) and certain ideas about right and wrong behavior. Examples of how people identify their religion include: agnostic/atheist/no religion, Buddhist, Christian (including Catholic, Jehovah’s Witness, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and Protestant), Hindu, Jewish, and Muslim. There are many, many more. Remember: All races and skin colors and religions are welcome in our school. If you would like to help your Civil Rights Team celebrate the Day of Welcome, don’t forget to wear Red and White on Friday!
