With the support of the local and the Sanford High School community, the SHS Helpers provided 77 Thanksgiving baskets to families this year.

The number of baskets nearly doubled their usual output, according to Director of School Counseling Beth Letourneau, marking a tremendous accomplishment for the students and those who contributed.

The Peer Helpers acknowledged the participation of the SHS students and staff. More than a dozen sports teams and clubs at SHS helped contribute to the cause.

Congratulations to Mr. McLellan’s Homeroom Spartan Time, who won the collection competition. Their efforts in gathering donations played a role in achieving the record-breaking number of Thanksgiving baskets this year.

The Peer Helpers also thank the local businesses that donated to this cause. The Maine Army National Guard 1136th Sanford Unit helped deliver the turkeys from Hannaford. The Sanford/Springvale Chamber of Commerce made a notable contribution by providing turkeys, while Marc Motors and Eastern Propane each sent business donations.

The SHS Peer Helpers meet every Friday morning before school in the small cafe, and all SHS students are welcome to join. The Thanksgiving baskets are one of the many yearly activities the group does. They also provide new student tours and lunch buddies. If you have questions about the group or are interested in joining, email Beth Letourneau at bletourneau@sanford.org.
