Daily Announcements

SHS Daily Announcements 04/13/23  WHITE Day

Things to do over break: Enjoy spring, eat ice cream, relax, AND pick a poem to perform for April 28th's poetry slam!  In celebration of National Poetry Month, we will be having a poetry slam in the agora during ST.  If you are interested, come see or email Mrs. Raymond in the library (jraymond@sanford.org).  All materials must be pre-approved.

Friday, April 14th is the GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network) Day of Silence- a national student-led demonstration where LGBTQ students and allies all around the country—and the world—take a vow of silence to push back against the silencing of LGBTQ+ youth and the erasure of their experiences.  As LGBTQ+ students and educators across the country face attacks on their rights to access affirming books, healthcare, and even the right to be called by the right name and pronouns at school, we use this day to demonstrate the power of our voices and the impact of our silence.  If students would like to participate in the day of silence, please see Mrs. Raymond in the library for information cards to present to your teachers and peers.  If staff would like to participate, please wear vibrant colors to show your support.  For more information about the Day of Silence, check out GLSEN's website. To see how Maine's LGBTQ+ students fare, check out this link: School climate for LGBTQ students in Maine 2020-2021
