SHS Daily Announcements 04/07/23 WHITE Day
April is National Poetry Month! We are celebrating all month!
- Visit the library anytime to create your own blackout, book spine, or ransom note style poem.
- Join us during Spartan Time in the agora for a poetry slam on Friday, April 28th.
- You can sign up to perform/read your own original work, or a favorite poem or song lyrics.
- Collect or create your own "pocket poems" the week after April break.
Staff and students are invited to participate in all of these activities. Let's have fun with words!
As we approach the holiday break, we want to acknowledge the cultural, religious, and historical significance of the spring holidays. The word "holiday" comes to us through Old English and means "holy day." From Holi in the Hindu tradition, Passover in the Jewish and Christian traditions, Easter and Orthodox Easter in the Christian traditions, these spring holidays celebrate new beginnings and a time to purify, redeem, and liberate the soul. The celebrations and traditions of these world holidays are as diverse as the individuals in our world who take part in them. To honor the religious diversity within our school community, we say Happy Holidays! https://forusa.org/rep/ and National Geographic kids: spring celebrations
Applications for the General Graduation Scholarships are available March 27 through April 14!! Please complete the application process on the Sanford High School website. All seniors are eligible for a scholarship. The application will also be emailed to all seniors.
The Islamic holy month of Ramadan starts on Wednesday, March 22 and ends on Friday, April 21. Many of the world’s 1.8 billion Muslims observe Ramadan by praying, reflecting, celebrating community, and fasting. The library is available to students who celebrate Ramadan, and are looking for a place of quiet reflection during lunchtime.
