Fruit

All three of Sanford’s elementary schools were awarded a Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program (FFVP) USDA grant for the 2024-25 school year.  The grant is administered through the Maine Department of Education and coordinated by the Sanford School Nutrition Program.

A free fresh fruit or vegetable snack will be served to all students at Carl Lamb School, Margaret Chase Smith School and Sanford Pride Elementary School every day outside of meal times.

The FFVP Program introduces students to a variety of produce that they otherwise might not have had the opportunity to sample.  Children are encouraged to try the fruit of vegetable snack each day.

The purpose of the FFVP Program is to create healthier school environments by providing healthier food choices; expand the variety of fruits and vegetables student experience; increase student fruit and vegetable consumption; and make a difference in student’s diets to impact their present and future health.
