Students from Mrs. Daly's Third Grade and guest readers from the SRTC Landscaping and Early Childhood Education Programs

Students from the SRTC Landscaping program and the Early Childhood Education program visited several classrooms at MCS and read the book "Maple Syrup from the Sugarhouse", by Laurie Lazarro Knowlton and illustrated by Kathryn Mitter.  After the read aloud, the students were able to taste test two types of maple syrup (real and fake), and then the students charted their favorite syrup.  Mrs. Daly’s class chose real maple syrup as their favorite!  Students also identified the five parts of the tree, and then learned how to identify the age of a tree by counting the circles in the tree.  The students wrapped up the lesson by donating a copy of “Maple Syrup from the Sugarhouse” to each participating classroom’s library.  Many thanks to the students from the SRTC program for sharing this wonderful experience with our students.
