Debi Hartford from Thurston and Peters Sugar House in Shapleigh visited MCS second graders to share the process of making maple syrup. The kids learned the different ways sap is collected and that it takes 40 gallons of sap to make just one gallon of syrup! The students also tasted maple syrup and learned the difference between store bought syrup and real maple syrup.
