As our culminating activity for Kindness Month, students had the opportunity to participate in the Force Field for Good, our first virtual assembly. Barry Lane modeled for the school a practical approach to creating a kindly classroom community of students who share a passion for self-reflection and aspire to well being for every member of their class. In this interactive presentation, students were able to listen to three of his songs including "Find Your Happy Place" and "Press Pause", model the Force Field of Kindness breathing and illustrate all of our own happy places.

Hello, The number of reported positive COVID-19 cases in Maine continues to be high. I am writing to remind everyone to please monitor yourself/your student and call a health care provider if you experience symptoms. Remember, it is important that everyone accurately complete the symptom check each day before coming to school and stay home if you are sick. Today, less than 2/3 of our students’ had their symptoms reported. This requires additional time for the nurse to go and check on the unreported students to make sure he/she does not have any symptoms. Your continued support in using the symptoms check site is appreciated. Respectfully, Chuck Potter Principal

While walking through the 1st grade wing I had the opportunity to watch Mrs. Morrison lead her students through a Scholastic News about Veteran's Day. Using her classroom's Promethean Board Mrs. Morrison had the students practice their one to one match to text by following along on their paper copy Scholastic News as the text was being read aloud on the Promethean Board. Her students also learned about helicopters; what a veteran is; as well as why we celebrate Veteran's Day.

As the first 3rd grade writing unit, personal narratives, draws to a close, students got a chance to (distantly) share with each other the pieces they are the most proud of. They were able to provide feedback to each other on meeting the goals we had as writers. Next week, they will get a chance to edit and publish their work! I am so glad we can still find ways to work collaboratively while adhering to our safety protocols. Mrs. Goad- Third Grade

Today in first grade students learned all about the process of voting. First graders learned that you can vote on lots of different things, favorite food, color, favorite dinner or even your favorite book character. Today first grade students “registered” to vote, filled out their own ballot and cast their vote for their favorite book character (the Pigeon or Pete the Cat). Once they submitted their vote, they received an “I voted” stocker (check your messages for a photo). After the votes were tallied Mr. Potter and Mrs. Hallissey made the announcement to the first grade team. Ask your child who won the election at MCS!

Boxes Wanted: Everyone is busy looking through their classrooms and preparing for the closing of MCS for a year. As a school we are looking to be packed up and prepared to move by June 24th. Our PTA has been fantastic in sending any sturdy boxes with hand holds and lids our way. They also provide staff with rolls of packing tape for Teacher Appreciation Week last week. This was just one of the many treats offered over the week, but the tape was very appreciated. However, we are running out of boxes to pack.
