Weekly Update

Cold Weather Has Arrived
Despite the beautiful weather this past Thursday and Friday, last Monday’s and Tuesday’s temperatures were a reminder that colder weather is here. Due to COVID-19 precautions our school will no longer be providing coats, boots, gloves, mittens, etc. when a student forgets theirs or did not bring the clothing to school. I recommend that your children dress in layers. That ay he/she can add or remove layers to make him/her more comfortable. As a reminder that when snow does cover the ground. Students will need to wear boots and snow pants with their jackets/coats, hats, gloves/mittens to be able to play in it.
Voting
Last Monday and Tuesday our first grade students learned all about the process of voting. First graders learned that you can vote on lots of different things, favorite food, color, favorite dinner or even your favorite book character. On Monday and Tuesday students “registered” to vote, filled out their own ballot and cast their vote for their favorite book character (the Pigeon or Pete the Cat). Once they submitted their vote, they received an “I voted” sticker (check your messages for a photo). After the votes were tallied Mr. Potter and Mrs. Hallissey made the announcement to the first-grade team. Ask your child who won, if he/she have not shared already.
November is Kindness Month:
Students will be receiving a Kindness challenge each school day for the month of November. Examples of a challenge were to say hello to two people at school they did not know, and to open the door open for someone at school. Students are also treated to a video of a guest reading a book on kindness as its theme or to lead a kindness activity. Our first two on-line guests were Mrs. Schoepp, school media specialist and Mrs. Hallissey, assistant principal. The 12th and 13th of this week are our school’s Spirit Days which coincides with World Kindness Day (13th) – The theme is let your Kindness show so, student should wear something bright or shiny neon or metallic
