April 11, 2019
Dear Parents and Guardians:
Maine’s public school students in grades 3-8 and in the third year of high school are required by both state and federal law to be assessed each year in mathematics and English language arts (ELA)/literacy and science. Sanford K-8 students have completed both mathematics and ELA/literacy assessments for this year. High school students completed the SAT and science assessments.
Sanford students will be assessed in science at grades 5 and 8, as well. The testing window for science opens on April 22, 2019 and closes on May 3, 2019. Unlike the ELA and mathematics assessments taken on computers, science is assessed with a paper and pencil test. While no single test can give a complete picture of a child’s achievement, the three components of the Maine Educational Assessment (mathematics, ELA and science) combined with other information (e.g. school grades and daily schoolwork), can help us all better understand the progress of our students.
The Willard 5th grade Science tests will occur:
April 23, 24, and 25 with make-ups to follow.
Testing will occur from 9:00-10:00 on each of these days.
We are confident that the quality instruction delivered by our committed educators, along with your support, can help our students meet and exceed the expectations Maine has established for their learning.
We encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions you have about the MEA or your child’s progress
